Development diary for Dante’s Inferno details game’s backstory

EA have released a development diary video featuring interviews with various developers working on Dante’s Inferno, an action adventure brawler releasing next year from the team who made Dead Space.

Dante’s Inferno, the game, takes its cues from the first part of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem, The Divine Comedy, which details protagonist Dante’s descent into the nine circles of hell on a quest to save his beloved Beatrice.

The development diary details how the team is using Alighieri’s vision of hell to create what seems to be a suitably epic game. Watch below:

A new development diary for Dante’s Inferno will be released every month until the launch of the game next year, detailing a new circle of hell, so look forward to it!

The map pack is pretty extensive, with three new multiplayer maps, new weapons, traps, devices and achievements, as well as a new zombie mode map which includes a new zombie enemy, the Hell hound.

Controversy over Halo: ODST pricing, Microsoft responds

Halo Wars: ODST

When the next entry to the Halo universe, Halo: ODST, was announced last year, member from developers Bungie stated how they didn’t view the title as a full-price, $60 game, and that, as far as pricing was concerned, they were think of something “value-oriented.”

During the week of E3, however, the final pricing structure of Halo: ODST was revealed to be the full $60, which naturally sent fans into a fit of rage, now being required to essentially pay for content they have already bought (Halo: ODST is packaged with previously release Halo 3 multiplayer maps).

Microsoft have responded to the outcry over ODST’s price, however, as a spokesperson says:

“At the time of [Bungie’s] statements, the overall scope of Halo 3: ODST was not yet finalized, and since then the project has grown increasingly more ambitious. We believe this standalone experience is much more than just an expansion.

“Halo 3: ODST provides a new campaign from the point of view of an entirely new character. Combine that with three new multiplayer maps, the entirely new cooperative mode called Firefight, and the complete Halo 3 multiplayer collection on a standalone disc, we feel this is a good value and tremendous addition to the Halo franchise.”

DOOM: Resurrection heading to iPhone next week, trailer released

A new DOOM title will be winding its way onto the iPhone and iPod Touch next week in the form of DOOM: Resurrection from id Software and Escalation Studios.

DOOM: Resurrection Logo

DOOM: Resurrection is an entirely new entry to the DOOM universe, but using lower resolution assets from 2004’s DOOM 3 to create a ‘next-generation,’ fully 3D iPhone game.

The title isn’t a port or a remake, as Wolfenstein on the iPhone was before it, but has been built from the ground-up for Apple’s mobile devices. The game apparently contains eights levels and a promise of five hours of gameplay, as the events that play out run parallel to those in the original DOOM 3.

You can watch an impressive trailer for DOOM: Resurrection below:

Green Day heading exclusively to Rock Band

Green Day

MTV Games and Harmonix have announced that the popular band, Green Day (who are, we’re reminded, multi-platinum selling and Grammy Award winning), will be providing exclusive tracks from their extensive musical history for use in Rock Band.

The exclusivity begins with three songs from their latest release, 21st Century Breakdown – namely 21 Guns, Know Your Enemy and East Jesus Nowhere – which will be available on July 7th. Additional Green Day songs heading to Rock Band will be announced at a later date.

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong said of the deal: “We are excited to be working with MTV and Harmonix. They are leaders and visionaries in the world of music and video games, and Rock Band is a really cool way for fans of all ages to experience our music.”

SVP, Electronic Games and Music, MTV, Paul DeGooyer also expressed his excitement for the co-operative effort: “It’s awesome that one of greatest bands on earth is coming to the Rock Band platform.

“Green Day is a longtime favorite of the Harmonix team, and we’re very excited to provide a new way for their fans to connect with them, while at the same time helping put this incredible music in front of a whole new audience.”

Nintendo wins Wii patent lawsuit

Wii Logo

Nintendo of America has revealed that a US District Court Judge has granted an early dismissal for the publisher in a Wii infringement patent lawsuit.

Guardian Media Technologies alleged that Nintendo’s Wii had infringed on one of its patents, but the US District Court in Los Angeles granted Nintendo’s motion for summary judgment of non-infringement earlier in the week, less than six months after Guardian filed the lawsuit against Nintendo.

The lawsuit alleged that Guardian’s patent for parental control technology in TV programs and DVD video playback was violated. Although the Wii does feature parental control functions, it does not feature DVD video playback.

“We are very pleased with the Court’s decision,” said Rick Flamm, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of Legal and general counsel. “Nintendo vigorously defends patent lawsuits. At the earliest stages of this case, Nintendo convinced the Court to dismiss this case as Guardian’s patent had nothing to do with Nintendo’s products.”
